When a house became a home.
One thing I love – and I mean love – about a brand new home is getting to see it months or even years after the final touches have been done.
Newness is nice, but that lived-in feeling of a house that has settled into being a “home” is really what its all about.
When we first met our clients, before the first shovel went into the ground, when the house was just an idea and the kitchen just a concept, the cutest little man in the pictures (the star of our shoot) wasn’t born yet, and now look at it all. We have a fully-fledged family homestead, ready to grow up in.
The pictures speak for themselves; between the hidden wine cabinet, the literally perfect stained white-oak island and accents, pull outs and appliance cabinet, the space turned out timeless, functional and ready to be loved in for years to come.
Let’s talk about the wood accents because I am obsessed when White oak gets some warmth.
We get asked all the time, should we go lighter or darker than the floors, and with majority of our clients opting for light wide-plank floors, we are mainly asked to either match the kitchen stain to the floors or lighten it up a bit, so this kitchen was a treat when they decided to go a few shades darker. And what a beautiful example of that it is. There is something very classic about White oak kitchen cabinetry, the stain captures the timeless quality and warmth of the wood, turning the island into a piece of furniture passed-down, like a heritage family table. I’ll be using this stain over and over again, it is so versatile with most tones of white.
We live and work and our family grows on the outskirts of Peterborough. This is our home, and we love that more people are building generational homes here in the area, and we can’t wait to build some more gorgeous, heritage kitchens here and beyond.
