Kitchen Island Goals
Our next several posts are going to be focusing on one of my favourite kitchen designs from the last couple years and the many elements that went into making this space perfect.
Let’s take a second and focus on The Island: it feels like the goal for the island was a heirloom harvest table meets versatile workspace – and she nailed it. I mean, c’mon. Wow. How much do I love this?! I’m not going to be able to look at my boring old stainless steel dishwasher the same ever again.
I love hiding appliances, the dishwasher especially. It is just a dirty-dish cabinet after all. Integrating panel-ready appliances into the island transforms the sink-side into a beautiful piece of furniture.
The timeless and giant Farmhouse sink sits on a piece of the countertop, which both stabilizes and levels, but also finishes off the sink so cleanly.
Custom stained white-oak, in a medium tone really brings out the richness and character in the grain, and the simple end column details. I love that wood is being integrated again, not just for their warmth and character but also because it is are hardy, and stands up to a little more use than a painted door. Again, feeling more like a piece of heritage furniture with ample seating, and tons of counter work space that works in tandem as the central meeting place in the kitchen.
